If you’ve ever finished a book and sat quietly for a moment because you weren’t quite ready to leave its characters, you understand something I love about reading.
A story can make someone else’s life feel close enough to touch. We worry about their choices. We want them to find their way. Sometimes, we recognize a feeling we’ve carried ourselves but haven’t known how to explain.
That’s the kind of connection I hope to create through my writing.
I’m Carlee L. Brown, and I write contemporary romance, women’s fiction, and dark romance. Thank you for stopping by my little corner of the book world.
Why I Write These Stories
I’m drawn to characters who have complicated lives and something meaningful at stake. A mother trying to hold her family together. Someone learning how to trust after being hurt. Two people who love each other but still have difficult choices to make.
I want to explore what happens after the apology, when trust still needs rebuilding. What it takes to begin again when people remember your worst decisions. How someone learns to value herself when she has spent so much of her life caring for everyone else.
Love matters deeply in my stories. So do the choices people make because of it—and the boundaries they sometimes need to protect themselves.
My contemporary romance and women’s fiction explore family, second chances, healing, and the hope of building a life that feels like your own. My dark romance takes readers into more unsettling relationships, where desire, obsession, and power complicate what the characters want.
Each book has its own emotional journey. Here on the blog, I’ll help you get to know those stories so you can decide which ones belong on your reading list.
Meet Every Time You Leave
Every Time You Leave, the first book in The Leaving Trilogy, introduces Clara and Mason in a small Texas town.
At its heart is a mother trying to protect her children while facing the pain of abandonment and learning what she deserves. Clara’s story explores how deeply someone leaving can affect a family—and how much strength it takes to keep making everyday choices when your heart is hurting.
One thought captures something important about her journey:
“Someone had left. Clara had not abandoned herself to follow.”
That’s part of what makes her story meaningful to me. Her needs matter, even while she loves her family. Her future matters, even when she cannot yet see what it will look like.
